If you wear hearing aids, you probably already know how much they can improve your life. But what many people don’t realize is that your smartphone can make your hearing aids work even better—if you have the right apps installed.
In this post, I’ll walk you through three essential apps for hearing aid users that can help you:
✅ Adjust your hearing aids anytime, anywhere
✅ Find quieter restaurants and public places
✅ Train your brain to hear speech more clearly—even in background noise
Whether you have Oticon, Widex, or other leading hearing aids, these tools can make daily life easier and more enjoyable.

1️⃣ Hearing Aid Manufacturer Apps – Control Your Devices From Your Phone
If you use hearing aids purchased within the last five years or so, there is probably a dedicated app that pairs with your devices. These apps give you remote control over your hearing aids, including volume, sound programs, and streaming settings. While today's hearing aids are "smart" and are usually able to make adjustments for you without you needing to fuss with them, occasionally you might find yourself in a listening environment where you want a little more control or customization. With the manufacturer apps, you have the control you need.
In our office, 99% of the hearing aids we use in our treatment plans are from Oticon and Widex. (More about why we choose those two manufacturers in an upcoming post.) Here's what each app can do:
For Oticon Hearing Aids:
Download the Oticon Companion App to:
✅ Adjust volume and balance for different environments
✅ Switch between listening modes like “Speech in Noise,” “Music,” or “Outdoors”
✅ Check battery status and connection
✅ Use RemoteCare to have virtual appointments—so we can adjust your hearing aids without you visiting the office
✅ Locate lost hearing aids using built-in GPS tracking
For Widex Hearing Aids:
The Widex Moment App includes all of the above, plus a unique feature called SoundSense Learn:
In challenging situations (like a noisy restaurant), SoundSense Learn gives you two sound options and asks which sounds clearer. It uses artificial intelligence to fine-tune your hearing aid settings in real time, based on your personal preferences.
Patients often tell me this feels like having a personal sound engineer in their pocket.

2️⃣ SoundPrint – The Best App to Find Quiet Restaurants and Cafes
Background noise is one of the biggest frustrations for people with hearing loss.
That’s why I recommend SoundPrint, sometimes called “Yelp for your ears.”
This free app helps you:
✅ Search for restaurants, coffee shops, and bars ranked by actual noise levels
✅ Choose quiet or moderate-sound venues near you
✅ Submit your own decibel readings to help others
Using SoundPrint means you can plan social outings with confidence and avoid environments where background noise makes conversation difficult.

3️⃣ LACE AI Pro – Train Your Brain to Hear Speech in Noise
Hearing aids amplify sounds, but they don’t automatically teach your brain to process speech more effectively. That’s where LACE AI Pro comes in.
LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement) is a scientifically designed brain training app that helps you:
✅ Improve speech understanding in noisy environments
✅ Strengthen focus and auditory memory
✅ Reduce listening fatigue and frustration
In as little as 20 minutes a day, a few times a week, you can train your brain to hear better—so you feel more confident and less tired after conversations.
We include LACE AI Pro at no extra cost in many of our treatment plans because it’s one of the most effective ways to improve comprehension alongside your hearing aids.
