Tinnitus Treatment in Herriman, UT

If you live in Herriman and you’ve been told to “just live with” the ringing, buzzing, or hissing in your ears, this page is for you. Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus is a tinnitus specialty practice. We built the practice around tinnitus rather than adding it to a list of services, and we’re Utah’s sole Lenire Preferred Provider. Lenire is an FDA De Novo approved bimodal neuromodulation treatment for tinnitus. Our South Jordan clinic is the closest location to Herriman.

Where can I get tinnitus treatment near Herriman, UT?

Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus treats tinnitus at its South Jordan clinic, 10437 S 1300 W, a short drive from Herriman. Care starts with a full tinnitus and hearing evaluation, then an individualized plan that can include Lenire, sound therapy, hearing aids when hearing loss is involved, and CBT-based coaching. The aim is to reduce how much tinnitus affects your sleep, focus, and mood.

Tinnitus Care in Herriman, UT — What’s Different Here

Herriman has grown faster than almost anywhere in Utah over the past two decades, and the city skews young. That doesn’t keep tinnitus away. A lot of the Herriman patients who come through our door are in their 30s and 40s: people who’ve spent years around power tools on job sites, at the shooting range, on ATVs up Butterfield Canyon, or in training near Camp Williams. Many first notice the ringing at night, in a quiet house, after the kids are finally asleep.

Plenty of them have already had a hearing test that came back “normal” and left without a plan. A normal audiogram is useful information, but it doesn’t explain the tinnitus, and it doesn’t mean nothing can be done. Our job is to find out what’s contributing to it and build a plan around that.

We’re also one of the first 10 Modern Tinnitus Specialty Centers in the United States. Tinnitus is a core part of what we do every day, and our South Jordan clinic brings that same specialty care to the southwest Salt Lake Valley.

Why a specialty practice matters

Tinnitus involves the ear, the auditory parts of the brain, and the body’s stress and alert systems all at once. That’s why it rarely responds to a single, one-size-fits-all product. A specialty evaluation looks at all of those pieces before anyone recommends a device.

Infographic explaining how tinnitus starts when reduced sound input from the ear causes the brain to increase internal gain, making phantom sounds like ringing, buzzing, or hissing noticeable.

What Is Tinnitus, Really?

Tinnitus is the perception of sound (ringing, buzzing, hissing, humming) when no outside sound is present. The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders reports that surveys estimate 10 to 25% of adults have tinnitus, so if you have it, you’re far from alone.

The leading explanation starts with reduced input from the ear. When the auditory system receives less signal at certain pitches, often from noise exposure or age-related hearing changes, the brain can increase its own internal sensitivity to compensate. That extra activity can be perceived as sound. It’s one reason tinnitus is best understood as more than just an ear problem, and why covering it up with background noise often isn’t enough on its own. Our complete tinnitus guide walks through the science in plain language.

Why stress and poor sleep can make it worse

Many patients notice their tinnitus feels louder during a stressful week or after a bad night’s sleep. Stress and fatigue can make tinnitus feel more prominent and harder to tolerate, though the relationship varies from person to person. A good plan addresses sleep and stress alongside the sound itself. We cover this in more depth in can stress make tinnitus worse?

The Connection Between Tinnitus and Hearing Loss

Tinnitus is closely associated with hearing loss, including changes too subtle to show up as a problem on a basic test. A standard hearing screening checks a limited set of pitches at a comfortable level in a quiet booth. It doesn’t tell you how well you understand speech in background noise, and it can miss early changes. That’s why someone can be told their hearing is fine and still struggle. Our article on hidden hearing loss explains how that happens.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery’s clinical practice guideline on tinnitus recommends a comprehensive audiologic examination for people whose tinnitus is persistent, one-sided, or paired with hearing difficulty, and a hearing aid evaluation for people with bothersome tinnitus and hearing loss. That’s the starting point we follow.

Check Your Tinnitus Severity

Answer a few quick questions to see how much tinnitus may be affecting your daily life and which next step may make the most sense.

Why So Many Tinnitus Treatments Fall Short

If you’ve had tinnitus for a while, you’ve probably heard the usual advice. Your hearing test is normal. Try a white noise app. Learn to live with it. Maybe someone sold you supplements, or hearing aids that never touched the ringing. It’s understandable to be skeptical by now.

Those approaches usually fall short for predictable reasons:

  • Masking covers the sound while it’s playing, but on its own it doesn’t change how the brain reacts to the tinnitus, so relief tends to stop when the sound does.
  • Supplements like ginkgo don’t have good evidence behind them, and clinical guidelines recommend against them as tinnitus treatments. Our review of whether ginkgo biloba helps tinnitus explains why.
  • Hearing aids that were never verified may not deliver enough sound at the pitches connected to your tinnitus. If that’s your experience, read hearing aid didn’t fix your tinnitus?
  • “Just live with it” skips the fact that habituation, where the brain learns to stop treating tinnitus as important, is something you can work toward with support.

What these have in common is that they skip the first step: figuring out what’s contributing to your tinnitus. That’s where we start.

Why masking alone falls short

A masker hides the sound for a while but leaves the brain’s reaction to it untouched. Habituation-based care works on that reaction, so the tinnitus gradually draws less attention and causes less distress, even on days when you can still hear it.

Evidence-Based Tinnitus Treatment at Our South Jordan Clinic

Every patient’s tinnitus is different, so we don’t hand everyone the same device. The tools we recommend depend on what your evaluation shows. Our South Jordan clinic is the closest location for Herriman, an easy drive north via Mountain View Corridor or Bangerter Highway. Patients who’d rather be seen in Utah County are always welcome at our American Fork clinic.

Tinnitus evaluation

Everything starts here. We take a detailed history of your tinnitus, measure how much it affects your sleep, concentration, and mood with validated questionnaires, check for sound sensitivity, and complete a thorough hearing evaluation that includes speech-in-noise testing. We also screen for anything that should be seen by a physician first. The result is a clear picture of what’s contributing to your tinnitus and what’s most likely to help.

Hearing aid–based tinnitus treatment

When hearing loss is part of the picture, well-fit hearing aids can make tinnitus less noticeable by restoring sound your brain has been missing. The fit has to be precise, so every fitting is verified with Real Ear Measurement to confirm the devices actually meet your prescription. You can read more in can hearing aids help with tinnitus?

We fit hearing aids from Starkey, Oticon, Phonak, Widex, Signia, and ReSound — among others. Brand is a tool, not a recommendation. The fitting protocol and follow-up care matter more than the logo on the device.

Lenire bimodal neuromodulation

Lenire is an FDA De Novo approved treatment that pairs sound through headphones with gentle stimulation on the tongue. As Utah’s sole Lenire Preferred Provider, we have extensive hands-on experience deciding who is a good candidate and setting realistic expectations before treatment begins.

Sound therapy

Customized sound therapy supports habituation by reducing the contrast between your tinnitus and the world around you. Used as part of a plan, it works toward long-term change instead of short-term cover.

My Tinnitus Therapy

Tinnitus distress often involves the nervous system as much as the ear. My Tinnitus Therapy is our CBT-based coaching program. It helps reduce the anxiety and emotional reactivity that make tinnitus feel intrusive, supports better sleep, and builds toward lasting habituation. CBT is one of the best-supported approaches for tinnitus distress in the research.

Habituation and coaching support

Habituation takes consistency, and progress isn’t always a straight line. Ongoing follow-up keeps you on track when it feels slow and lets us adjust the plan as you improve.

Watch: CBT for Tinnitus Isn’t What You Think

Dr. Layne Garrett explains what tinnitus-focused CBT actually involves, and why it’s about changing the brain’s alarm response to the sound rather than telling you it’s all in your head.

Why Herriman Patients Choose Us

Best of State in Auditory Services, 15×  ·  Real Ear Measurement on every fitting  ·  Utah’s sole Lenire Preferred Provider

Herriman is a city of young families, long commutes, and weekends outdoors. When tinnitus starts cutting into sleep or focus, it reaches into all of that. Situations we regularly help Herriman residents with include:

  • A Rosecrest dad whose ears started ringing after years of hunting and running power tools
  • A commuter whose tinnitus flares during stressful drives up Mountain View Corridor or Bangerter
  • A parent who can’t fall asleep because the ringing gets loud once the house goes quiet
  • Someone told their hearing test was “normal” who knows something still isn’t right

You can also see our full range of Herriman hearing care services, from hearing evaluations to hearing aids.

I had ringing ears for about three years and had already been told at two clinics that nothing could be done. My hearing tests showed I had a mild hearing loss. I was struggling to sleep because the ringing bothered me so much. Timpanogos Hearing and Tinnitus provided a plan for me that included Lenire, sound therapy at night, CBT-based coaching, and steady follow-up. Within a few months I was falling asleep without the tinnitus taking over, and most days it stayed in the background.

How Long Does Tinnitus Treatment Take?

Timelines vary because tinnitus varies. Some patients notice a change within a few weeks; for others, improvement builds gradually over several months. Sticking with the plan matters more than speed.

We’ll be straight with you about outcomes. We won’t promise a cure, because results depend on your hearing, your tinnitus pattern, and how your nervous system responds.

  • For many patients, tinnitus becomes much less noticeable.
  • For others, the biggest change is that it becomes less intrusive and far less emotionally draining.
  • Better sleep and better focus are common, meaningful wins.

The goal is to understand what’s driving your tinnitus and build a plan around it. If sleep is your biggest struggle right now, start with our sleep tips for tinnitus.

Who This Is Right For

This is likely a good fit if:

  • Your tinnitus is affecting your sleep, focus, or mood, and you want a real evaluation rather than reassurance.
  • You’ve already tried maskers, supplements, or hearing aids that didn’t help the ringing.
  • You were told your hearing is “normal,” but you know something isn’t right.
  • You want an evidence-based plan instead of a one-size-fits-all product.

See a physician first if:

  • You’ve had a sudden drop in hearing in one or both ears. That’s urgent and time-sensitive, so get seen right away.
  • Your tinnitus pulses in time with your heartbeat, is only in one ear, or comes with dizziness, vertigo, or facial weakness.
  • It’s brand new and started with a cold, ear infection, or ear pain.

And if you’re looking for a guaranteed overnight cure, no honest provider can offer one.

If you recognize yourself in the first list, the next step is a real evaluation so we can find out what’s driving it.

Frequently Asked Questions from Herriman Tinnitus Patients

Where is the closest tinnitus clinic to Herriman, UT?

Our South Jordan clinic at 10437 S 1300 W, Suite 250, is the closest Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus location to Herriman, a short drive north via Mountain View Corridor or Bangerter Highway. You can reach the South Jordan clinic at (801) 441-6838. Herriman patients are also welcome at our American Fork clinic.

My hearing test was normal. Can you still help my tinnitus?

Yes. A standard hearing test checks a limited range under quiet conditions and can miss subtle changes linked to tinnitus. Our evaluation goes further, with speech-in-noise testing, validated tinnitus questionnaires, and a detailed look at how tinnitus affects your sleep, focus, and mood.

Is Lenire available near Herriman?

Yes. Lenire is available at our South Jordan clinic. We’re Utah’s sole Lenire Preferred Provider, and we’ll tell you honestly after your evaluation whether you’re a good candidate.

Can hearing aids help tinnitus?

They often can when hearing loss is involved, by restoring sound the brain has been missing and making tinnitus less noticeable. The fit matters, which is why every fitting we do is verified with Real Ear Measurement. Hearing aids don’t cure tinnitus, and they aren’t the right tool for everyone.

Can tinnitus be cured?

There’s no proven cure for most chronic tinnitus, and you should be wary of anyone who promises one. What treatment can do is reduce how much tinnitus affects your life. For many people that means better sleep, less distress, and a sound that stays in the background most of the time.

When should I see a doctor right away for tinnitus?

Get medical care promptly if you have sudden hearing loss, tinnitus that pulses with your heartbeat, tinnitus in only one ear, or tinnitus with dizziness, vertigo, or facial weakness. Sudden hearing loss in particular is urgent and time-sensitive.
