Audiologist & Tinnitus Specialist Near Draper, UT
Do you hear well in a quiet, one-on-one conversation but lose track of the words when a meeting gets crowded or a restaurant fills up?
That gap between “my hearing seems fine” and “I cannot understand people in noise” is one of the most common reasons Draper residents contact us. It is also one of the easiest problems to miss because a basic hearing test can look normal even when everyday listening has become difficult.
Draper sits at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, between the Wasatch Mountains and the Point of the Mountain. It is home to many working professionals and growing families, including people whose days are spent in open offices, virtual meetings, classrooms, and busy restaurants.
Those are often the environments where hearing difficulties appear first. You may follow a quiet conversation easily but lose the words when several people are talking or background noise increases.
Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus provides comprehensive hearing and tinnitus care for Draper residents. We evaluate more than your ability to hear quiet tones. We also look at speech understanding, hearing in background noise, tinnitus symptoms, and how listening difficulties are affecting your work, relationships, and daily life.
Our newest clinic in South Jordan is just minutes from much of Draper, bringing comprehensive hearing evaluations, verified hearing-aid fittings, and specialty tinnitus treatment closer to home.
Our approach is built around objective testing, verified treatment, and ongoing care—not a quick device sale.

Where can Draper residents find comprehensive hearing and tinnitus care?
Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus provides comprehensive hearing evaluations, prescription hearing aids, tinnitus treatment, speech-in-noise testing, and Real Ear Measurement for Draper residents. Our South Jordan clinic is just minutes from much of Draper, making specialty hearing and tinnitus care easier to access close to home.
Comprehensive Hearing Care for Draper Residents
Most hearing problems do not begin with silence. They begin with effort.
You may catch most of a conversation and quietly fill in the rest. Over time, that guessing becomes exhausting, especially in meetings, restaurants, classrooms, or family gatherings.
That is why our evaluations go beyond the standard tone test. A basic screening can show whether you detect quiet sounds, but it does not always explain how well you understand speech when background noise gets in the way.
For a Draper professional working in the Silicon Slopes corridor, that may show up first in an open office or crowded meeting. For a parent, it may be most noticeable at a busy family dinner or school event.
What a Complete Evaluation Includes
- Pure-tone testing to map the softest sounds you can hear
- Speech-in-noise testing to measure how well you understand words in realistic listening conditions
- Tympanometry to evaluate middle-ear and eardrum function
- Cognitive hearing screening because hearing and brain health are closely connected
- A clear explanation of what the results mean for your daily life
Many people with genuine listening difficulties still have an audiogram that falls within the normal range. They can detect sound but struggle to separate speech from competing noise.
Research published through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association shows that speech-in-noise ability does not always match the standard audiogram. That is why we test the problem directly instead of assuming that a normal tone test means normal everyday hearing.
Why does the extra testing matter?
If you can hear that someone is talking but cannot make out the words, the answer is rarely to make everything louder. The right treatment depends on identifying where the breakdown is happening, and that requires more than a basic hearing screening.
Hearing Aids That Actually Work
If you have worn hearing aids before and felt disappointed, you are not alone. One of the most common things we hear from Draper patients is, “I tried hearing aids, but they ended up in a drawer.”
The device is not always the real problem. Often, the fitting was never properly verified.
Why Real Ear Measurement Matters
Every ear canal is shaped differently. That means the same hearing-aid settings can produce different results in different ears.
Real Ear Measurement uses a small probe microphone placed in the ear canal to measure the sound that is actually reaching the eardrum. We compare those measurements with your prescription targets and adjust the hearing aids until the fitting is accurate.
Think of it this way: you would not want your blood-pressure medication managed entirely by averages without checking your actual blood pressure. Hearing aids should not be fitted entirely by software estimates without measuring what they are actually delivering inside your ears.
Research published through the National Institutes of Health supports verified hearing-aid fittings over relying only on manufacturer software.

I would keep this section image-free unless you have a strong Lenire-use photo. The prior section already contains an infographic and podcast embed, so another visual here could start to feel crowded. e538e9b3-fbef-4704-96d2-1ff485d23a1c.png going back one section, how is this infograhpic It works well for that section. It is clear, specific, and directly supports the Real Ear Measurement explanation rather than adding decoration. What it does well: It explains the process in a simple three-step sequence. The language is patient-friendly. The visual hierarchy is strong. It reinforces your main point: measurement first, then verification, then adjustment. It matches the blue clinical style of the page. I would use it immediately after the paragraph explaining how Real Ear Measurement works, before the blood-pressure analogy. That order would be: Explain that every ear canal is different. Explain that a probe microphone measures the actual output. Show this infographic. Use the blood-pressure analogy. Continue into the supporting research paragraph. That way, the graphic teaches the process first, and the analogy reinforces why verification matters. One small wording issue: “Measure Your Ear Canal” is not quite technically precise. The probe microphone is measuring sound levels inside the ear canal, not measuring the ear canal itself. A more accurate heading would be: Measure Sound in Your Ear Canal The explanatory sentence underneath is already accurate, so this is a minor issue rather than a reason not to use it. The rest looks strong. give me good alt text fot that Infographic showing the three steps of Real Ear Measurement: measuring sound in the ear canal, verifying hearing aid output, and adjusting the devices for clearer, more personalized hearing.](https://i0.wp.com/utahhearingaids.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/What-REM-Does.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1)
A Treatment Plan, Not a Transaction
Hearing loss is a chronic condition, so successful treatment requires more than selecting a device and sending someone home.
Our treatment plans may include:
- Hearing aids selected for your hearing pattern, lifestyle, and goals
- Real Ear Measurement at the fitting
- Follow-up visits and adjustments
- Quarterly performance servicing
- Supplies
- Hearing rehabilitation to help your brain adapt
- Options to upgrade as your hearing or technology needs change
We fit hearing aids from Starkey, Oticon, Phonak, Widex, Signia, ReSound, and other leading manufacturers. Brand is a tool, not the treatment. The fitting protocol and follow-up care matter more than the logo on the device.

Tinnitus Specialists Serving Draper
Tinnitus is the perception of ringing, buzzing, hissing, humming, or another sound when no outside source is present. For some people, it is a mild background annoyance. For others, it interferes with sleep, concentration, mood, and daily life.
For a busy Draper professional or parent, that constant sound can quietly affect work performance, patience, and the ability to relax at home.
Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus treats tinnitus as a clinical specialty. We are one of the first 10 Modern Tinnitus Specialty Centers in the United States, and we begin with a proper evaluation rather than a generic masking recommendation.
How We Treat Tinnitus
Tinnitus rarely responds to a single solution. Depending on what your evaluation reveals, treatment may include:
- Lenire bimodal neuromodulation — an FDA-cleared treatment that combines sound with gentle tongue stimulation
- My Tinnitus Therapy — our CBT-based coaching program designed to reduce the anxiety and emotional reactivity that can make tinnitus feel more intrusive
- Customized sound therapy to support habituation and reduce the contrast between tinnitus and the surrounding environment
- Hearing-aid therapy when hearing loss is contributing to the tinnitus
- Ongoing coaching and follow-up to help the brain respond differently over time
Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus is northern Utah’s only full-time Lenire provider. We also have extensive experience helping patients understand whether Lenire is appropriate and how it fits into a broader treatment plan.
Research published in peer-reviewed tinnitus journals supports the use of structured, evidence-based approaches rather than relying on a single universal treatment.
Why does tinnitus need a real evaluation?
Tinnitus is a symptom, not a diagnosis. It may be connected to hearing loss, noise exposure, stress, sleep disruption, medication effects, or another medical condition. A proper evaluation helps identify the most likely contributors so treatment can be matched to the individual instead of guessed.
Listen: What a Realistic Tinnitus Treatment Timeline Looks Like
In this podcast episode, we discuss why tinnitus improvement is usually gradual, what meaningful progress can look like, and why treatment timelines vary from person to person.
Hearing Loss and Brain Health
Hearing loss affects more than communication. When the brain has to work harder to fill in missing sounds, everyday conversations can require more mental effort than they should.
Over time, that increased listening effort can contribute to fatigue, frustration, and withdrawal from situations that have become difficult to follow. Hearing loss has also been identified as a modifiable risk factor associated with cognitive decline and dementia.
Research published in The Lancet has highlighted the importance of addressing hearing loss as part of long-term brain health.
Why This Shapes How We Practice
Our founder, Dr. Layne Garrett, Au.D., is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. That training informs our approach across the practice.
We do not treat hearing loss as a simple volume problem. We look at how well you understand speech, how much effort listening requires, and whether treatment is helping your brain receive clearer, more complete sound.
For Draper residents in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, this is an important window. Addressing hearing difficulties earlier may help reduce daily listening strain and support continued participation at work, at home, and in social settings.
A “normal” basic hearing test does not always explain why conversations still feel difficult. That is why we include speech-in-noise testing and other measures that look more closely at how hearing functions in real life.

What Draper Patients Say
A Draper software manager in his early 50s first noticed the problem during team meetings. One-on-one conversations were manageable, but in a full conference room, the words began to blur together.
For nearly two years, he blamed quiet speakers and poor acoustics. He eventually tried hearing aids from a big-box store. They helped somewhat in quiet settings, but they did not improve the noisy environments that were causing the real difficulty. Before long, the devices ended up in a drawer.
When he came to Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus, the evaluation revealed the difference between what he could hear and what he could understand. His standard hearing test showed only mild changes, but his speech-in-noise results were significantly worse.
His previous hearing aids had also never been verified with Real Ear Measurement. After the devices were properly fitted and the settings were confirmed inside his ears, hearing rehabilitation was added to help rebuild his listening skills.
“For the first time in years, I can actually follow what people say in a crowded room. It feels like someone finally turned the words back on.”
That is the outcome we are working toward: not simply louder sound, but clearer understanding in the situations where hearing matters most.
A Long-Standing Standard of Care
Timpanogos Hearing & Tinnitus has been recognized as Best of State in Auditory Services 15 times.
That recognition reflects a consistent commitment to objective testing, verified fittings, specialized tinnitus care, and treatment plans designed around long-term outcomes rather than one-time device sales.

Possibly. Open offices, crowded meetings, and restaurants are often where speech-in-noise difficulties appear first. Some people can detect quiet tones normally but still have trouble separating speech from competing sound.
That is why our evaluations include speech-in-noise testing rather than relying only on a standard audiogram.
We treat tinnitus as a genuine clinical specialty. We are one of the first 10 MA standard hearing test measures your ability to detect tones in a quiet environment. It does not always show how well you understand speech in background noise.
We evaluate speech understanding, listening effort, and other factors that may explain why everyday conversations still feel difficult. Treatment depends on where the breakdown is occurring, not simply whether the audiogram falls within the normal range.
