Tinnitus Treatment in South Jordan, UT
This page is for South Jordan residents who have lived with ringing, buzzing, or humming in their ears and have been told there is nothing to do about it. We are a specialty tinnitus practice — not a general clinic that treats tinnitus as an afterthought. In fact, we are Northern Utah’s only full time provider of Lenire, the FDA-cleared bimodal neuromodulation device for tinnitus, and one of the first 10 Modern Tinnitus Specialty Centers in the United States.

Tinnitus Care in South Jordan, UT — What’s Different Here
South Jordan is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Salt Lake Valley, and many people here assume they have to drive to Salt Lake City or beyond to find specialized tinnitus care. With major local employers such as Merit Medical and Ultradent — and a growing population throughout South Jordan and Daybreak — there are plenty of people living and working in the area who have spent years around noise, struggled with ringing, or simply never knew specialty tinnitus treatment was available close to home.
Here’s the honest truth: most people with tinnitus have already been dismissed at least once. Maybe a provider ran a hearing test, said it looked “fine,” and sent you home. Maybe someone told you to mask the sound and move on. That experience is exhausting, and it’s why so many people eventually stop asking for help.
We built our practice around treating tinnitus as a real clinical condition. We are one of the first 10 Modern Tinnitus Specialty Centers in the United States, and that focus changes everything about how we evaluate and treat what you’re hearing.
Tinnitus is not one problem with one fix. That’s why we start by understanding the mechanism behind yours before recommending treatment.

What Is Tinnitus Really?
Tinnitus is not a sound coming from outside your body. In many cases, it reflects activity within the auditory system and brain. That distinction matters, because it helps explain why advice to “just make it quieter” often falls short.
When the auditory system loses or changes input — even input you may not consciously notice is missing — the brain can increase its internal gain in an attempt to compensate. As a result, internal neural activity may become more noticeable and be perceived as ringing, buzzing, hissing, or another phantom sound.
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders describes the relationship between changes in auditory input and tinnitus in its overview of tinnitus for patients.
Tinnitus is also closely tied to the nervous system. Stress, poor sleep, and anxiety do not necessarily cause tinnitus, but they can increase how noticeable and distressing it feels. That is why a real treatment plan often has to address both the auditory system and the brain’s reaction to the sound — not just the ear.
You can learn more about the mechanisms behind tinnitus in our complete tinnitus guide, which breaks down the science in plain language.
Why the Right Diagnosis Matters First
Because tinnitus can have many different drivers, guessing is the enemy. A treatment that helps one person may do very little for another. That’s why we evaluate before we treat, every time.
The Connection Between Tinnitus and Hearing Loss
Most people are surprised to learn how closely tinnitus and hearing loss can travel together. Even when a standard hearing test comes back “normal,” there can still be auditory damage or processing difficulty that the test does not fully capture.
Standard audiograms check whether you can detect tones. However, they do not always show how well you understand speech in noise or whether more subtle changes in hearing are affecting the way your brain processes sound. This is where many South Jordan patients get stuck — they are told their hearing is fine while they still struggle every day.
Research published in peer-reviewed audiology literature, including work indexed in PubMed Central on tinnitus and cochlear function, explores the relationship between tinnitus and auditory damage that may not be obvious on routine testing. That’s one reason we go beyond the standard test.
When hearing loss is part of the picture, treating that underlying change can reduce how noticeable tinnitus feels for some patients. Restoring more of the sound input the brain is missing may reduce one of the factors contributing to tinnitus perception.

Answer a few quick questions to see how much tinnitus may be affecting your daily life and which next step may make the most sense.
Evidence-Based Tinnitus Treatment at Our South Jordan Clinic
Our South Jordan clinic is opening in September 2026 at 10437 S 1300 W, Suite 250. Until it opens, South Jordan patients are welcome at our established American Fork clinic, about 30 to 35 minutes south on I-15. Either way, you receive the same specialty tinnitus protocol built around evaluation, not guesswork.
Here’s how we approach treatment. No single tool is “the answer.” The plan is matched to what we find in your evaluation.
Tinnitus Evaluation
Everything starts here. We evaluate your hearing, test speech understanding in noise, and characterize your tinnitus — including its pitch, loudness, and how much distress it is causing.
That last part matters because how tinnitus affects your sleep, focus, mood, and daily life is often more important than how loud it measures.
Want a head start? You can take our quick tinnitus check before your visit.

Hearing Aid-Based Tinnitus Treatment
When hearing loss is part of the picture, properly fit hearing aids can reduce tinnitus for some patients by restoring missing sound input.
But fit matters. We use Real Ear Measurement to verify every hearing aid fitting so the devices are actually meeting your prescription rather than simply being programmed from software defaults.
Lenire Bimodal Neuromodulation
Lenire is an FDA-cleared device that pairs sound with gentle tongue stimulation to help reduce the brain’s response to tinnitus.
We are northern Utah’s only provider of Lenire and one of approximately 14 Lenire Preferred Providers in the United States. That gives our team extensive hands-on experience evaluating candidates and guiding patients through the protocol.
You can read our full breakdown on the Lenire tinnitus treatment page.
Sound Therapy
For some patients, structured sound therapy helps the brain reclassify tinnitus as less important background information.
This is different from simply masking the sound. The goal is not to cover tinnitus up temporarily, but to support long-term habituation so it stops demanding as much attention.
My Tinnitus Therapy
Because distress can amplify tinnitus, we developed My Tinnitus Therapy — our proprietary CBT-based coaching program for tinnitus patients.
Cognitive behavioral therapy has strong evidence for reducing tinnitus-related distress. Our program is designed to help patients break the anxiety-tinnitus loop that keeps the sound front and center.
Habituation and Coaching Support
Lasting improvement usually comes from consistency. We coach you through the plan, adjust treatment as your response changes, and continue supporting you over time.
That ongoing care is part of the treatment — not an upsell.
Why masking alone usually fails
Masking can make tinnitus less noticeable while the masking sound is present, but it does not necessarily change how your brain reacts to tinnitus when that sound is removed. A more complete treatment plan focuses on reducing the distress and attention associated with tinnitus and supporting long-term habituation — not simply covering up the sound.
What to Expect
We won’t overpromise, because that’s exactly what leaves people disappointed. Hearing aids do not restore normal hearing, and results are not instant.
Here’s the honest version: adaptation takes time, and follow-up adjustments are part of the process. Success looks like clearer speech, less listening effort, and easier participation in the moments that matter — dinner conversations, phone calls, church, and time with grandkids.
Your results depend on your hearing loss pattern, your speech-understanding ability, how consistently you wear the devices, and the quality of the fitting. Because we control that last part carefully, we can give you the best possible outcome for your ears.
You can learn more about the science behind hearing aids on the NIDCD hearing aids resource page.

We get this question constantly. In this video, Dr. Garrett explains realistic tinnitus treatment timelines, what progress can look like, and why patience matters with any tinnitus treatment plan.
Who This Is Right For
South Jordan tinnitus patients come to us in many different situations. You might recognize yourself here:
- A Daybreak parent whose tinnitus spikes at night and interferes with sleep
- A Merit Medical or Ultradent employee who spent years around noise and now hears constant ringing
- Someone whose hearing test came back “normal” but who still struggles and hears buzzing
- A retiree noticing tinnitus alongside gradual hearing changes
- Anyone who was told to “just live with it” and never received a real evaluation
- A person whose anxiety and tinnitus seem to feed each other in a frustrating loop
If any of those sound familiar, this kind of specialty tinnitus care may be a good fit for you.
Why South Jordan Patients Choose Us

People choose us because we treat tinnitus as the clinical condition it is. We’re a specialty center, our providers hold advanced tinnitus credentials, and we’ve been recognized as Best of State in Auditory Services 15 times. That recognition reflects years of doing the more thorough, specialized version of this work.
Our providers are Certified in Tinnitus Management by the American Board of Audiology (CH-TM) — a credential most general clinics do not carry. Combined with our Lenire access and our CBT-based coaching program, that gives South Jordan patients treatment options they are unlikely to find at a typical hearing aid clinic.
“I’d stopped believing anyone could help. Now I sleep through the night, and most days I forget the ringing is even there. It’s still technically there — but it doesn’t run my life anymore.”
South Jordan patient, initially treated at our American Fork clinic
Where that patient is now: she sleeps normally and rarely thinks about her tinnitus. A full evaluation revealed a hearing change her previous test had missed. We then combined properly fit, Real Ear Measurement-verified hearing aids with sound therapy and coaching. Over time, the sound faded into the background.
No magic switch. Just the right plan followed consistently.
You can also read about the broader team and clinic on our South Jordan clinic page.
How Long Does Tinnitus Treatment Take?
Let’s be honest about expectations. Tinnitus treatment is a process, not a single appointment. For most patients, meaningful change unfolds over weeks to a few months, depending on the treatment plan and how the individual responds.
For some patients, tinnitus improves significantly. For others, the biggest change is that it becomes less intrusive and far less emotionally exhausting. That state — where the sound may still be present but no longer feels distressing or constantly demands attention — is called habituation.
Your results depend on several factors, including your tinnitus pattern, your hearing status, how your nervous system responds, and how consistently you follow the treatment plan. Because of that, we set realistic goals with you from the beginning.
We will not promise to erase your tinnitus. What we will do is build a plan aimed at creating measurable improvement in the parts of your life tinnitus is affecting — whether that is sleep, concentration, stress, or your ability to enjoy everyday activities.
Is This the Right Treatment for You?
This kind of specialty tinnitus care may be a strong fit if:
- Your tinnitus is affecting your sleep, focus, mood, or relationships.
- You’ve tried maskers, supplements, or generic advice without lasting relief.
- You want a real evaluation and a treatment plan — not reassurance and a shrug.
- You’re open to a multi-tool approach rather than expecting one quick fix.
- You’re willing to follow through with care over several visits.
It may not be the right fit if you’re looking for an overnight cure or a single pill. That does not exist for tinnitus. What does exist is a structured, evidence-based path toward less distress and less disruption — and that’s what we focus on.
Frequently Asked Questions from South Jordan Tinnitus Patients
Our South Jordan clinic at 10437 S 1300 W, Suite 250 opens in September 2026. Until then, South Jordan patients are seen at our American Fork clinic, which is a straightforward drive south along I-15. Once we open, the same verified, treatment-plan approach will be available in the Salt Lake Valley.
Yes, and this is common. Standard hearing tests can miss subtle auditory damage and speech-in-noise problems. Because tinnitus often exists alongside changes a routine audiogram does not fully capture, we test further before deciding on a treatment plan.
Yes. We are northern Utah’s only full time provider of Lenire and one of approximately 14 Lenire Preferred Providers in the United States. After your evaluation, we’ll tell you honestly whether you’re a good candidate for it.
Sometimes they help significantly, especially when hearing loss is contributing to the tinnitus. However, fit matters. We verify hearing aid fittings with Real Ear Measurement so the devices are actually meeting your prescription rather than simply being turned on and handed over.
We won’t promise that, because no honest provider can. What we can do is work to reduce the impact tinnitus has on your life. For many patients, that means better sleep, better focus, less distress, and a sound that fades into the background.
Watch: Why Most Tinnitus Advice Is Backwards
Anxiety and tinnitus can reinforce each other, and understanding that loop is often an important turning point. In this video, Dr. Garrett explains why some of the most common tinnitus advice can actually keep the sound front and center — and what a better approach looks like.
